Technical Sales Engineer – Houston | Engineered Products Location: Houston, Texas – Head Office Based Salary: $100,000 – $120,000 Base + Bonus + 401(k) + Benefits Package Industry: Oil & Gas | Power | Industrial | Engineered Products The Opportunity Are you a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, working closely with customers and providing expert engineering guidance? GMA Technical are recruiting for a global engineering business that is investing heavily in the growth of its North American operation. The business has an established presence across key industrial markets and is now entering an exciting period of expansion, creating excellent opportunities for ambitious engineering and sales professionals to build long-term careers within the organisation. We are looking for a Technical Sales Engineer to join the Houston head office team. This is a highly customer-focused role where you will become a trusted technical point of contact for key customers across the Oil & Gas, Power and Industrial sectors. You will combine your mechanical engineering expertise with commercial awareness, helping customers identify the right engineered solutions while supporting the wider Business Development team in developing new opportunities. This is not a role where you will simply provide technical support from behind a desk. You will be working closely with customers, Business Development Managers, engineering teams and internal stakeholders, playing a pivotal role in both customer retention and growth. About the Business The company is a global engineering organisation with a strong reputation for engineered products and technical solutions across demanding industrial applications. What makes this particularly exciting is the company's current growth trajectory. Significant investment is being made into the North American market, with a clear strategy to expand its customer base, develop existing accounts and build a much larger regional operation. The culture is highly customer-responsive, entrepreneurial and innovative. People are encouraged to take ownership, develop ideas and find better ways of supporting customers rather than simply following a rigid corporate process. With the business firmly in growth mode, there is also a genuine opportunity for individuals who perform well to progress into increasingly senior commercial and leadership positions. The Role As a Technical Sales Engineer, you will become a key technical and commercial resource for the business and an important point of contact for existing and new customers. Your role will be centred around understanding customer requirements, providing technical guidance and developing engineered solutions that deliver genuine value. You will work alongside the Business Development Managers, helping them develop opportunities and providing the technical expertise required to successfully convert projects and grow key accounts. Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a primary technical point of contact for selected customers across Oil & Gas, Power and Industrial markets.
  • Develop strong, long-term relationships with key customer contacts.
  • Provide expert technical guidance, product advice and engineering solutions to customers.
  • Understand customer applications, operating environments and technical requirements.
  • Recommend appropriate engineered products and solutions based on customer needs.
  • Support Business Development Managers with technical input throughout the sales process.
  • Attend customer meetings to understand requirements and provide technical expertise.
  • Help identify opportunities for additional products, applications and services within existing accounts.
  • Play a key role in key account management, ensuring customers receive an exceptional level of technical and commercial support.
  • Assist with quotations, technical proposals, specifications and customer presentations.
  • Work closely with internal engineering, production and commercial teams to develop appropriate solutions.
  • Support the development of new business opportunities alongside the Business Development team.
  • Help customers overcome technical challenges through innovative and practical engineering solutions.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the company's product portfolio and the applications in which it provides value.
  • Maintain an understanding of customer industries, market trends and competitor activity.
  • Build the technical and commercial capability required to progress into an external/regional sales engineering position.
About You We are looking for an individual who combines strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with a genuine passion for helping customers solve problems. You may already have some experience within technical sales, applications engineering, sales engineering or customer-facing engineering β€” or you could be a technically strong Mechanical Engineer looking to make the transition into a more commercial, customer-facing career. We're particularly interested in candidates who:
  • Are based in Houston, Texas.
  • Have a Mechanical Engineering background or closely related engineering qualification/experience.
  • Enjoy speaking with customers and understanding their technical challenges.
  • Have a natural ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Enjoy providing technical guidance and developing practical engineering solutions.
  • Are commercially curious and interested in understanding how technical solutions translate into business opportunities.
  • Have experience within Oil & Gas, Power, Industrial or other engineered-product environments.
  • Are confident working with engineers, technical specialists, procurement teams and senior customer stakeholders.
  • Are proactive, inquisitive and genuinely interested in learning.
  • Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Want to develop beyond a purely technical position and build a long-term career in sales engineering and commercial leadership.
A Career Opportunity – Not Just a Job One of the most important aspects of this opportunity is career progression. We are not looking for someone to simply come into the business, perform a technical support function and remain in the same position indefinitely. The long-term development pathway is designed for ambitious individuals who want to build a career: Technical Sales Engineer β†’ External / Regional Sales Engineer β†’ Sales Leadership As you develop your technical knowledge, customer relationships and commercial capability, you will have the opportunity to transition into a regional/external sales engineering position with increased territory and customer responsibility. Beyond that, the growth of the North American operation creates the potential to progress into senior commercial and leadership positions. The business is committed to developing its people, with best-in-class training, development, mentoring and coaching provided throughout your career. You will be surrounded by experienced engineering and commercial professionals who will actively support your development rather than expecting you to figure everything out yourself. What's On Offer?
  • $100,000 – $120,000 base salary
  • Bonus
  • 401(k)
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Houston head office-based position
  • Best-in-class technical and commercial training
  • Structured mentoring and development
  • Exposure to major Oil & Gas, Power and Industrial customers
  • Opportunity to work alongside experienced Business Development Managers
  • Clear progression into External / Regional Sales Engineering
  • Long-term opportunity to progress into Sales Leadership
  • Opportunity to join a global business investing heavily in North American growth
  • An entrepreneurial, innovative and highly customer-focused culture
Why This Opportunity? If you're a Mechanical Engineer who loves solving problems, talking to customers and providing expert technical advice, this could be an excellent opportunity to take your career in a more commercial direction. You'll have the technical credibility to become a trusted advisor to customers, while developing the commercial skills needed to progress into a senior sales and leadership career. For the right person, this is a genuine long-term career opportunity within a global business that is investing heavily in its people and its North American growth strategy.
